Holistic Life Coaching

She Thought She Wanted a Partner. She Actually Wanted a Different Life.

The Goal That Was Not Really Hers

A client came to me wanting one thing: to find a significant other. That was the goal she had set, the thing she was sure would fix how stuck she felt.

A few sessions into 1:1 coaching, using some deceptively simple techniques, something else surfaced. The desire for a relationship was not really hers. It was her parents’. What she actually longed for, underneath all of it, was to start her own business.

She followed that thread instead. She built the business.

Then, almost as a side effect, she started dating someone new. She had stopped chasing a relationship and started building a life that made her magnetic. She became the attraction, instead of the one doing the chasing.

A Shift That Needed a Person in the Room

That reframe did not come from a worksheet or a script. It came from someone listening closely enough, across real conversations, to notice the gap between what she was saying and what she actually meant, and caring enough to gently push on it until it cracked open.

That is the part that cannot be automated. You can ask a chatbot for advice about your goals, but it will take your framing at face value. It has no reason, and no relationship, to question the story you are telling yourself. Uncovering a belief you have been living inside of, without knowing it is there, takes a person who is paying attention to you, session over session.

The Beliefs That Never Announce Themselves

Here is the thing about the story you have been telling yourself, the one about what you are supposed to want, who you are supposed to become, what “should” come next: you cannot see it from inside it. It does not feel like a belief. It feels like the truth.

My job is not to diagnose you or dwell on the past. That is therapy’s role, and it matters, but it is a different job. My job is to notice the pattern underneath what you are saying, name it before you are fully ready to see it, and stay in the room while you push back on me. That pushing back is the work.

Accountability From Someone Actually Watching

You probably already know what you should do. What you do not have is someone who remembers what you said last week, notices when you are circling instead of moving, and cares enough to call it out. Not with judgment, but with the kind of honesty that only comes from someone invested in you, not in keeping you comfortable.

A Relationship, Not a Transaction

Coaching works because it is built on trust that deepens over time, the kind that lets me challenge you hard on Tuesday and have you thank me for it on Friday. That trust is earned, session by session, by showing up for you consistently. It is how a woman who thought she wanted a relationship ended up building a business, and found the relationship anyway, on the other side of becoming who she actually wanted to be.
